i've seen this phenomenon a lot. the best thing to look at is probably where they get their sense of identity from. 6es usually meld with the group, and pick up their personal identity from the sense of US. 4s tend to see themselves as unique and special. of course, the problem sometimes arises that a 4 might see themselves as special because they see themselves as part of a special group. (ahem.. eye of the night...) however, even if they do this, a 4 will still tend to be very introspective and concerned with their specialness, while a 6 will tend to be more focused on the group and protecting US from THEM. for a 4, it's generally not so cut and dry as that.

: Why do sixes often mistake themselves for fours? And do fours mistake themselves for sixes? I seem to be a 4w5 or a 6w?, which is causing me confusion. Please help.
