: As an avid reader, I'm always hunting for good books, and as per Four definition, that would mean books which have a nice mix of depth, introspection, drama, and perhaps melancholy -- something to heighten the emotion and feel intense over. So I'm looking for suggestions from my fellow Fours on some good reads. I'm interested mainly in novels, memoirs/autobiographies, and journals. I'd also like to read more poetry, so I'm looking for good suggestions in that category, too.

: I will list a few "Four" books (in my opinion) that I've really enjoyed:

: Mrs. Stevens Hears the Mermaids Singing, May Sarton
: Recovery: A Journal, May Sarton
: An Interrupted Life: the Diary of Etty Hilesum
: Arranged Marriage, Chitra Divakaruni
: Opal: the Journal of an Understanding Heart, Opal Whiteley
: The Tiger in the Grass, Harriet Doerr
: The Bread Givers, Anzia Yezierska
: Rilke's writings/poetry

Oh yes!!! I would heartily endorse Rilke to any 4s- I found it almost TOO intense, when I first read him-I had to keep stopping- all the shivers it was giving me,- and I read a LOT.There's also a beautiful Australian book called "Monkey Grip", by Helen Garner, told from the point of view of a woman who's in love with a Heroin Addict.(and no, it doesn't glamourise heroin, thank god)
