: Hello all,

: I've been doing a little campaigning for the enneagram at work in hopes of getting my fellow workers interested. Their reactions to the system have been somewhat disheartening, to say the least. Three of them are E-1's, one is an 8, and one is a 7. The three 1's at least thought the concept interesting enough for them to read their type descriptions. The 7 & 8 didn't even get that far. I'm amazed that people aren't a little more interested in whom they are and why. My wife is also a 1, starting to be a pattern here, and she is glad that I've found something to pique my interest but doesn't care to pursue it herself. Could these other types be onto something which we've sorely missed? Could it be that ignorance of one's motivations is the better way to go through life? Are they happier than we are? Answers, anyone???

Hi there Ev :)

Are they happier than we are? Who knows. But I wonder of their idea of 'happy' and mine are even in the same ball park! My ex (9) was of the same opinion as your wife....until a crisis hit....but I'll get back to that in a moment....

Like me, you are a 4, and we 4's like to delve deep - the deeper, the better. I, for one, want to live my life to the full, and that means being truly 'aware'. The enneagram is a wonderful tool for this. Our awareness is a great gift and one which we can pass on to others to enrich their lives.

My therapist often said that 'crisis is good'. It forces change. Confusion is usually the most prominent characteristic of a crisis, and awareness is the path to overcoming whatever obstacles the crisis has thrown in our way. How can I do something about that of which I know nothing? Where do I even start? Awareness is the first necessary key. For those not interested - it's their loss. For "Enneagramaniacs' like you and I, Ev - it's our gain!

As I said to Sam...."Let there be light"!
smiles
Amanda :)
