: : Aha, the proverbial question of the ages; What do I want to be when I grow up? Interesting dilemma you've found yourself in Corey. You can safely consider yourself a part of the unwashed masses because about 90+% of us can't figure out what we want to be either. Have you ever wondered why adults are always asking kids what they want to be when they grow up? THEY'RE LOOKING FOR IDEAS THEMSELVES!

: : Since you like philosophy maybe you should consider college with possibly teaching as a career option. The one thing I AM sure of is that someone just starting out nowadays NEEDS a college education. It's the equivalent of the high school education that my generation had to have. (I'm 44.) Will your parents help you with college funding? Are you a good enough student to make it? Do you want to? Tons of questions that only you can answer. The future may even seem overwhelming to someone just graduating high school. Is this the case for you? What do you *really* want to do?

: Being closer to the confusion age, I can say after high school I had no true
: idea what I wanted to do. I went to the Navy and knew I didn't want to do *that* *LOL*
: I studied almost a year in a technical college and found out I don't want to do that either.
: Now I just started majoring English philology at a university, don't know what else I'll study
: and have a vague feeling this might be it...but I still don't know for *sure* However, having spent
: a few months not doing anything but being in a job in which I don't have any future, I know at least
: doing something is better than letting everything go. If, in the end, I'll find out I really don't like
: even this at all, at least I'm more educated, I've learned, I know.

: As far as I can tell, being a part of the academia means you actually have a lot more freedom than
: when going for the lower-level jobs. Now I have more freedom to be me (what a great thing for a four...),
: actually I'm encouraged to be more what I really am than ever before in my life. Maybe it's just the faculty
: of Arts and the subject, but still.

: But I am confused about what I want to do, still... ;)

Hello Cory & Ronnie,

Let me just go on the record as warning you two against being too quick to choose a life's work. Oftentimes we jump at the first job which pays good money so that we can get a place of our own, a car, and freedom from parental domination. The problem here is that you have taken on just enough debt to assure your attendance at said job which tends to limit your options. Then along comes a wife/husband and children, who count on you for support, which further limits your options. Then a bigger mortgage to better accomodate your growing family...etc. I believe you get the picture. Don't be too hasty regarding "life's work & marriage". You have a whole life before you. Hell, you two aren't even out of warranty yet! *LOL*

You guys take it easy.

Ev
