Few things, short of outright crimes against humanity, can depress my optimistic spirit. I hate to see people ignored or criticized, especially when such act either sinks their mood or reinforces an already sunken mood. : Issues concerning our sharing of this world with other animals have, of course, bothered me since I became a vegan in 1991. Statements like, "The good Lord put them here for us to eat," when delivered in a cavalier tone by educated people, gave me incredulous pause even when I was still a mischievous kid in my early vegan days. : It would bother me more if I saw someone run over a small animal, then appear to disregard their act of slaughter, or make some apathetic observational comment about it, as though it were no more noteworthy than passing over a speed bump, than if I saw them make a joke at the animal's expense. : The latter response indicates ill conditioning, even for American culture, and perhaps a need for spiritual growth that the pitiful sod will probably never seek. At least the joker has *some* feeling about the event, however neurotically misdirected. : The former response, however, indicates a numbness of character that is truly the stuff of psychological terror. Apathy is one of the most disturbing things in the world... just behind a slothful selfishness, and often counterpart to it. : Keep lovin' :) : oynk ^(oo)^ Someone of a similar mindset, I have been a vegetarian for 10 years. :) Joe
