I'm sorry. I can identify with you really well because my husband's grandfather just passed away two weeks ago. I was numb on the plane ride out there....just going through the motions.
It was very weird because I did not cry until I saw my sister-in-law crying for him while the family was "receiving friends".
I know he wasn't my grandfather but I had really grown attached to him because he was such a fun fellow and I could see that he had the same twinkle in his eyes that my husband has. It's that whole circle of life thing.
Plus it was nice to have a grandfather in my adulthood because I did not really get to know mine well....one died before I was born and the other when I was seven.
It was kind of stessful too. There were hurt and mixed feelings among family members because he had decided not to have heart valve replacement surgery. It could have prolonged his life a few years. The doctors all said he was strong enough for the surgery. Instead he just got weaker and weaker. It was like he gave up. For that I am very sad.
