"Help-refusers" most certainly deserve our sympathy and empathy. That is what compassion is all about. We must feel enormous empathy for those who hurt themselves and are unable to help themselves (and sometimes this is our own selves!). All sufferings deserve our utmost compassion, empathy, and help, when possible.
