At the risk of being engulfed in this burgeoning flame war, I just want to say that, in a sense, Derf is right-we all have free will after all (brain chemicals be damned), and if we wish to be depressed, we will be. I remember long nights wallowing in self-pity-and ya know, in a way, I actually ENJOYED it in some perverse fashion. At least I was feeling SOMETHING (even if it wasn't the blissful union with the girl I was obsessed with and so desperately craved-and of course my feelings for her were one of the major contributing factors...). But, the clincher is that depressed people don't know that they have OTHER choices-me, I felt trapped within a hopeless situation (=my life) which seemed to offer no escape. Little did I know that there most certainly was an alternative! Thanks be to God/Goddess/Nature and all that for showing me that I did have a choice... John DiFool
