Maybe this is because we only see a limited number of characteristics - a playwrite/script writer will try not to let his characters act out of character so it's more stereotyped than in real life and provides useful pithy icons. Went to see a play with my nephew Neil, who's only 15 and has learning difficulties,(dyslexia mainly and avoidant behaviour) and he knew straight away what E-types the plays characters were. I think he's destined to be some sort of mad analyst or psychiatrist - he's so perceptive about people, but totally eccentric. from the land of eccentrics. Tigs.
