Enneagram Type 4 Board Archive In a sense, it's easier for guysPosted by Diarmuid on February 13, 2002 at 11:50:58: In Reply to: 'I wandered lonely as a duck'. How do people cope with loneliness? nt posted by Tiggy on February 12, 2002 at 17:15:06: (Obviously, given that the suicide rate among single men is 4 times the same for women, it's not a lot easier overall.) But men don't have to examine themselves to discover why they're lonely, they just have to put up with it. A lonely woman (or gay man) is lonely mostly by choice. A lonely man (or lesbian) is lonely mostly because the outside world is a certain way. Put it this way: you build a house badly, one windy night, the house collapses. You have two problems: homelessness and shame. You build a house well: an unprecedented tidal wave, or a terrorist attack destroys it. You have one problem: homelessness. And your mind, unburdened by shame, is better equipped to handle the problem than in the first example.
