: tool (tul), v. 1. use a tool on.

: whatever tool (dictionary, english book) you choose would be fine. the dictionary can be found at any book store, but you might need to go to a college book store or mail order catalog to find the english book. if you know of a hardware store nearby that includes these items as part of their stock, that would be fine. however, you would ask for ADVICE (noun), not ADVISE (verb).

: this last message was much clearer, but still needs a little work. nevertheless...thank you.

: as i said to derf, the issue is not whether my comments are presumptuous or guru-like. they indeed are, in fact. the issue is whether or not anyone agrees, and whether or not this is effective when "giving advice".

Yes, but you said "retool". It's a different word altogether and means "to use/obtain another set of tools". Should I use another computer, another brain or another set of fingers? I'd rather revise what I've written.

I use a unversity book store if I want to buy something, if I just want to check something out, I go to a linguistic library. Whatever book isn't good, if I read a book about common mispronunciations, it wouldn't help much here.

I appreciate your efforts, since I'm studying English at a university and as a first-year student I have to get rid of the most common errors as quickly as possibly. Since you're so interested in correcting my mistypings, let me return the favor:

You should use "latest" instead of last in "This last message...". After all, I'm writing this now, so my latest wasn't my last, was it? Besides that, "Your latest..." would be more precise. "This" referred more to the message you were typing, didn't it?

Sentences begin with a capital letter and the first person singular is written with a capital letter "I". People's names start with a capital letter too, unless they use lowercase themselves.

To prevent any further misunderstandings, I would've gone to that hardware store for instructions and advise with an expert. "Advise with" means "to take counsel". Again, the original version was faulty, but there are psycholinguistic reasons for that--I'm digging in deeper to the English language and my brain is reorganizing itself a bit, therefore my thoughts are scattered and I'm making typing errors, omissions and such more than I usually do.

About nitpicking others' typing and language on a board like this, which has a very relaxed tone is something I don't personally like. Furthermore, critisizing the method of conveying an idea rather than the idea itself isn't doesn't result in improved exchange of ideas. Therefore I'm sorry I was provoked by your answer, I should've just let it be. I won't contribute to this thread after this message.

Ronnie
