We wrote our vows... it was SO important to me, to us, that we FELT everything we said... I didn't want the "til death do us part" thing.
Also, since we married at a Unitarian Universalist church, part of the way it goes is that they encourage you to "personalize" the ceremony...especially in our case since my husband is catholic! It had to be a ceremony we both could identify with and feel true.
All in all, what was important was how symbolic it all was...
And it was wonderful :)
About being self-conscious... since it was a REALLY small wedding, just family and close friends, I hardly even realized they were there when we were exchanging vows :)
