In Reply to: No, they're busy COMPARING themselves with the people around them. In order to pay attention to themselves, they pay attention to everyone. (nt) posted by Bartholomew (63.214.102.96) on April 27, 2002 at 11:02:18:

: : : Conquering your fears, specifically avoidance behaviour, fear of other people, is one of the most difficult things for fours to overcome. I am about to join a health club for a two month membership, (I have not worked out in two months because of the moving stress, so now all my lines are gone, so I have to start all over again, will need another two months or so to get them back again) and this one is co-ed and crowded. I don't want to be around all those people, because it just makes me feel self-conscious, but the reason why I want to join it is because the machines and equipment they have, I want to use. I am nervous and scared to go here, but I keep thinking I need to use these machines. I also don't like being the only female in the free weight room, but, again, I need to use it and the bars, so I don't have a choice. I will just have to try to focus on my routine, and not pay attention to others. I large part of me is so nervous, I don't even want to do this. I have been delaying joining for weeks because of it. I need to not think about it and just go.

: : : How do others overcome their avoidance phobia behaviour?
