: Being a 4 at work has caused me so much misery. I know exactly what you Yep, I do know what you mean about "living down" to their expectations. It seems that my boss ignores me and acts annoyed if I talk to her. Plus maybe she'll do a few tacky things, and then when I withdraw: stay in my office more, don't smile as much -- She wonders what's wrong and THEN if I say that there is any problem, she can point out that it is due to MY behavior! So then I can try being all cheery again, get ignored, and the cycle repeats. I have a cat/dog analogy of myself at work. A dog will greet its master who has abused it. I get tired of being the one at work who speaks and smiles only to be glared at. The day comes when I want to be a cat. A cat will stay alone rather than stand for any abuse!
