Enneagram Type 4 Board Archive Personal sensitivities...Posted by Ronnie on September 30, 1999 at 05:50:20: In Reply to: Re: Translation: I think? posted by Tiggy on September 29, 1999 at 22:56:38: : I think you were deliberately hiding the fact and got annoyed when you were forced to admit not living in the US. After all it is rather embarassing living in Finland. Cue the Monty Python songs and jokes about pining for the Fjords. We have an advert on tv at the moment where a bloke takes his wages and decides to just get on a ferry to see where he ends up as an adventure - and he ends up in Finland. he decides it wasn't such a great idea after all. : though personally, I'd LOVE to go to Finland, ( wouldn't wish to exclude myself from any holiday offers), lots of nice trees and lakes and ice. I think it would be lovely and peaceful. Haven't you got a high suicide rate? Or was it alcoholism? Well, I'll bring a bottle, and a collection of triconsonantal roots. Philology under the stars - how romantic! A four and "his" country...I'm not a very patriotic person, "my country" sensibilities don't matter much to me, probably because I've been so outwardly oriented most of my life. In fact, I'm lousy in describing what Finns are like, it's much easier to tell about nature and such things...because I'm a special case (a four), so I can't speak for the others! *LOL* Actually it is true, many of my attitudes are unconventional. Finland is so little known...I've included a link to the very best comprehensive factbook I've ever found online, it's on the CIA site, thus it's accurate and up-to-date. Remember, at least, that Linus Torvalds, Mika Häkkinen, Mika Salo and Renny Harlin are Finns...and that Nokia is a Finnish company! That's very important. Personally, the thing that most ties to me this country is the Finnish language. If I'd forget it right now, there wouldn't be that much holding me here. More generally, I've left my original "home" (central Finland) already and I don't see the place where I live as a major fact contributing to my identity. One of my outlooks on life is that all boundaries and such are man-made, no one really "owns" the land in a deeper, symbolic way, so any place I can call mine for the time being can be home... Maybe one of the things contributing to this (besides my fourness) is that I'm not restricted by language, like many other Finns (for example) are. I don't know about the current alcoholism and suicide rate figures, but I know Finns drink a lot...don't try to drink a Finn under the table! I think the suicide rates have been decreasing, but I'm not sure, as the issue is a bit of a taboo here. Ok, enough rambling... Ronnie Ps. There are no fjords in Finland, they are a Norwegian thing...
