: I think you were deliberately hiding the fact and got annoyed when you were forced to admit not living in the US. After all it is rather embarassing living in Finland.

Tigs,I can't imagine why you would say that "it is rather embarassing living in Finland." First, I can't imagine why anyone would be embassassed by living in any country. I'm proud to be an American but I'd be proud to be a Finn had I been born there. Second, you have brought up many times how sensitive you are to the slights others on this board send your way. This isn't uncommon among 4's so you're in good company. But the fact that you've chosen to disparage Ronnie's homeland leaves me flabbergasted. Let's see, how does that go? Oh yes, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Now I don't care whether an atheist or the most pious Christian ever to draw breath reads this, I think they'll agree that this concept makes good sense.

Cue the Monty Python songs and jokes about pining for the Fjords. We have an advert on tv at the moment where a bloke takes his wages and decides to just get on a ferry to see where he ends up as an adventure - and he ends up in Finland. he decides it wasn't such a great idea after all.

A little British elitism maybe? Trust me when I say that even as the British are looking down their provencial noses at others, there are countries who consider the British to be somewhat backward. BTW, I'm not thinking of the U.S.

: though personally, I'd LOVE to go to Finland, ( wouldn't wish to exclude myself from any holiday offers), lots of nice trees and lakes and ice. I think it would be lovely and peaceful. Haven't you got a high suicide rate? Or was it alcoholism? Well, I'll bring a bottle, and a collection of triconsonantal roots. Philology under the stars - how romantic!

What quaint questions to ask about one's homeland even as you're angling for an invitation to visit. Why don't we query him about whether or not they beat their women? (Ronnie, I'm just dreaming up crazy stuff to make a point for our "form teacher".) I'm pretty sure I'm going to catch hell for this post, and expect nothing less, so fire away!
