Hello again, Summer. I can't remember if it was you or what's-her-name who told me never to speak to them again. If it was you, then you're not reading this... er, you shouldn't be. Anyway, I have something to say from personal experience. I realize you haven't mentioned any particulars, regarding your pain, in your message, but still, I have a strong suspicion that I know it well.

Fours confuse their identities with the way they seem, both to themselves and to others. As part of the Feeling triad, their identities are built chiefly around their expressions and impressions.

Twos and Fours, being on the expressive-receptive ends of the identity-construction line, would probably react most hurtfully to suggestions, or accusations, stating that they are incapable of either expression or feeling-receptivity, with the Two valuing expression slightly more, and the Four valuing receptivity slightly more. This principle is akin to the well-known one by which Threes react hurtfully to suggestions that they are "losers," incapable of garnering admiration.

Trying to convince yourself that the person was wrong will do little good, since it is the nature of the Feeling Triad to doubt itself, and this might throw you further into obsession, especially since the opinions of others toward you will always bear a considerable weight against objective fact.

Most doubts of this sort are based on delusions, anyway. It is my conviction that if your suspicions about your defects were true, you would not have the inclination to question them.

Realize that none of us is perfect, and we all have the perfect opportunity to put ourselves through this self-tormented pain. Only some people are more obsessive, and thus more delusional, about their self-perceived faults.

I'm a recovering addict of this sort of "externally-induced" pain myself. It's taught me a lot.
