I think you could go even further back than that. Yes, I agree with the fact that "King of Pain" is quite "four", but it's too elaborately crafted to pass off as a "raw" four; thus it's mainstream appeal.

You want to listen to four in its straight, unadulterated sense? Listen to The Police's "Does Anyone Stare?" written by Stewart Copeland.
