Hi Jasper~~

Funny you should mention music. Oddly enough, unlike most people in general, music was not the biggest part of my life either. Rather, it was visual---whether it was art or visualization, dreams, whatever. But there is a time when music is the only thing I can use: when I'm extremely angry, music is the only thing that calms me down. I also listen to classical & I'm a '60s music lover myself. In classical I listen to the Russian composers for some reason (Rachmaninoff, Tchikovsky...) I guess music soothes the savage beast?....

p.s.: I haven't forgotten about responding to your post; it's just taking awhile! :)

: So does it happen in real life what the Enneagram books say, that we use music to heighten and prolong the moods we are in?

: I am much more a movie watcher and than a music listener (and even more so now than when I lived at home with my parents), but I find that when I am in certain moods, either feeling very centered and restful or, the opposite, feeling very melancholic, I will pop a few tapes into a portable player and walk the lakefront to downtown, even if it's a gloomy, cold day. The whole experience, the walk, the music does something to me, and when I walk back into my home, I feel so "at home in my own person" it doesn't matter if I accomplish anything the rest of the day. What music do I tend to take with me on these jaunts? Usually it is nonvocal, like classical music from the romantic period (Bethoven, Mendelsohn, Brahms)or maybe some pop singer stuff from the 60s and 70s. A few times it is just the sounds of the sea.

: Does anyone relate?
