I thought you would have studied all about that by now. :-) CMOS stands for Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. It's the technology used for almost all computer chips today, and describes the type of transistors used to make up the chips. There are many steps in the CMOS manufacturing process (over 500 steps for the biggest microprocessors!), and the micromachines researchers have found ways to make tiny mechanical parts using this process, so they can put gears and mirrors on the same chip as transistors and other electronic components.
