: Have any of you ever been to Southern Arizona in the American Southwest? I've been there once, and the beauty of the desert is incredible. And plus, it's very diverse. In tucson, for example, they have skiing and snow on top of the mountains, or desert camping in the valley down below. And in september, it's not too hot, but not too cold...perfect. : Or, of course, we could meet in between the east and west coast and all go cow tipping in my wonderful state, Nebraska!!! =oD : -Emily, Midwesterner, potential southwesterner (PLEEEEEEASE CORY!!!!!) : ------------- : : Greetings Fourdom :) : : In September of next year, the airfares ex Australia (and ex Sydney in particular) are going to be at an all time low. So many people are coming from all over the world (for the Olympics) - and the planes are going to be practically empty for their return flights. They're practically giving them away! This presents me with a unique opportunity to do something I would normally never be able to afford to do....travel! I would love nothing better than to meet all you thoroughly windswept and interesting 4-ish folk - and it looks as if travel is within my reach - *and* there's not a turtle in sight! So how about a 'conclave'? : : When I first considered travel, I thought about taking a trip to Britain - going down to Glastonbury, climbing the Tor and bearing my breasts to the moon; staying in a bed-and-breakfast on the shores of a scottish highland loch; visiting Trinity college in Dublin and laying eyes on the *real* Book of Kell and the Lindisfarne Gospels (both of which I've studied at Uni). Then I thought I'd swing across to the Tuscany wine region. There's a beautiful b&b that I've heard about that is close to a town (Fragatti, I think it's called - or something like that) where every Saturday night they close off the town centre to traffic and have a huge street party. All the young people come from all over the area to eat, drink and dance the night away....I figured that I've gotta get me some o' that! I thought about lying on a beach somehwere on a stop-over on my way back....a Greek island - or maybe Jamaica....you know, that sort of thing. : : (OK - I'm the first to admit that I go off in a bubble sometimes - but you would be surprised at how often my bubbles have become realities!) : : ANWAY....if you just bear with me, I'll try and get to the point.... : : All these 'dream places' that I would love to see lack one important feature - and to an extrovert like me, a fairly elementary, if not essential* feature - is people to share it with. Which brings me to "The Conclave". When I saw that Tiggy was talking about making a trip to the US - and then all the talk about a 4 get-together - I just *knew* that I had to come. Call it a serious bout of 4 envy if you like - but I would just love to meet you people and get to know you in 'real' time. We've talked about it, joked about it and dreamt about it. I say - let's do it! : : I've been emailing with Ev for some time now - and it was he who coined the phrase "Conclave of Fourdom". Don't you just love it! It conjures up all sort of pictures for me - and it is SOOO 4! : : OK - so, presuming that we actually did this....there would be a number of questions we'd need to answer....like where, for instance? Since most of you are from the US it makes sense to have it there - but where in the US? Also, what shape would this take? I mean, do we hire that cabin in the mountains and all make our way there? How long would we meet for? : : I'm interested in brain-storming this thing. It would be a unique opportunity for all of us - and a great experiment in human interaction....not to mention alot of fun :) : : What do you think Fourdom? : : smiles : : Amanda :)
