I'm glad you're coming out of the rut. It sounds more like you had the blues instead of a depressive episode, which lasts at least two weeks and should be treated professionally.

What about the girl you mentioned? If you barely know her and she is affecting you this much, you're in a fantasy relationship which is obviously unhealthy.

I withdraw also when I'm down, and it's a mistake. Being alone allows you to brood about your problems and you start to take everything very seriously. Laughter and being around people might help you feel somewhat normal. Reach out to the ones who care about you. Talking about things helps... Even if they can't understand, they might be able to sympathize. Everyone feels the blues at some time or another. Take care.

: I am just coming out of a one week rut, a really bad rut that I could hardly bear, rotating around a girl I barely know.
: Granted, most of the time I'm a very happy guy, but I just get dragged down. It makes me very hard to do just about anything, such as post on this message board.
: The reason I'm posting this is because I could really use some advice when I get in these ruts. I've had friends leech onto me when they get needy, and so I withdraw when I get depressed so as not to pull anyone down with me. Yet I still need people when I get like that, and I don't know how to get myself lifted up again.
: Does anyone have any thoughts? Is there anything I can do to help myself?
