I doubt they actually "lack" feelings - they're just afraid of them.

When I get the impression that people are afraid to access their hearts, my automatic response is to sympathize with their plight, and to go easy on them.

Other people are deeply rooted in their heart, but they're afraid to let anyone see. Believe it or not, this is perfectly obvious sometimes, even when they are trying to hide every last inch of humanity in them.

Of course, that doesn't quite seem to be your situation. In which case...

If the issue is *not* fear or inhibition, and they're actually just that way, like you seem to imply - *militantly* anti-feeling, with roots in simple lack of comprehension more than anything else... then... ha ha ha! How comical.

Be thankful for your intuition, sublimity, spirituality, exquisite strangeness ... Learn to be strong.

There are four ways I know of dealing with the the raging uncertainty of feelings.

The first way is to deaden your soul. (8-9-1?)

The second way is to hide from it. (5-6-7?)

Or, you could play Dionysus (a la Nietzsche), and be utterly driven by it. (2-3-4?)

The last way (best for last, of course) is to empower yourself - mind, body, and soul - without ignoring or excluding any of them.

Balance and discipline ARE good. There's a streak of masochism in me that experiences a visceral excitement when I force myself into doing practical, sensible things. It's painful at first, but after I've beat myself into shape, there's such a feeling of well-being.

(Of course, I'm only half-serious about the "self-torture" aspect of discipline, because it's actually healthy and beneficial.)

Hearts are foolish, but they're the beauty of life. They should be allowed to roam, but they should be disciplined. Michaelangelo didn't just paint; he painted with a specific objective in mind. There's always a dynamic balance.

There are millionaire entrepreneurs out there who will tell you that intuition plays a leading role in their business decisions. So there's no excuse for being a robot. That's one of the primary lessons of the 9gram - it's counter-productive to be excessive in *any way*. Severe emotionalism is never good. Robotic idiocy is never good.

And neither is kiddish sexism, by the way. Good riddance to that job, for job's sake!
