: : : New England may actually be the best place for a conclave. But Ev's post reminded me of a scary story, in which while in Cape Cod during the summer some months back, I had this incredible urge to go to a lighthouse on a deserted strip of land. Took two hours stepping on large stones set up like dominos over the ocean to reach this grassy island. Then seeing the lighthouse was like seeing Emerald City. Ran faster and faster but as I approached a few white birds like Seagulls began descending gradually closer and closer to my head. My sense of danger told me to run like hell back to the stones. Later, a bird expert told me they were "turns" (spelling), birds that build their nests in New England around lighthouses, (also those white birds you see in New England landscape scenes)--and that I was disturbing their nest. Trust me, birds WERE descended from dinosaurs. Never made it to the lighthouse, but maybe at the Conclave... : : *** : Helo Jay, : I was in Minnesota some years back and I visited the north shore of Lake Superior. It was late fall with the first snows just days ahead so it seems that there weren't a lot of locals visiting the area at the time. Understand that last line to mean that I WAS TOTALY ALONE. Hmmm, imagine that! :) Anyway, there's a park where a lighthouse, decommissioned of course, is one of the attractions. It was one of those gray, overcast days I spoke of before so everything had a sort of Stephen King'ish cast which certainly added to the "atmosphere". I got near to the lighthouse thinking that maybe it'd be cool to have a look from up above. I was very much into photography at the time and thought the view would make for a spectacular wall hanging. Well, as I got to the base I suddenly realized just how creepy everything was adding up to be. So, as is usual for me in such circumstances, I took a moment to reflect upon my feelings. DYNAMITE could not have gotten me inside that lighthouse and up that winding staircase. I could already see the next day's headlines reporting a body being found in the lamproom of that lighthouse and, curiously enough, the fellow just happened to be a Texan who was passing through. I swear that I would have given it a go had somebody, anybody, else been there to take the trip. Who knows Jay, maybe one day we'll take that trip together. : Ev You make us sound like Frank and Joe Hardy with flashlights exploring the secret of the old mill *LOL* But pat yourself on the back kiddo, you got closer to your lighthouse than I to mine. --Jay : PS. You wouldn't think me unmanly if I blubbered like a baby all he way, would you?? *LOL*
