: : Just discovered eneagrams and I am fascinated. One thing doesnīt make sense though. I have noted how its more likely than anything that people consider themselves fours, specially women. Isnīt the idea that every number should "get itīs fair share"?
: : Just look at this discussion forum how big intreset it is for the number four section.
: : Are we living in a day and age that promotes fours? Are four a more flattering number to belong to...sort of artistic and in contact with your emotions. Like some mustique woman in a french film.
: : Enlighten me please.
: : With respect.

: It's the old self-selecting sample thing... Most 4s are very much into self-discovery and self-understanding and stuff like that, with the result that you get lots of 4s involved in discussions like these. Similar with 5s, because its an interesting system, and its on the net, you get lots of them, too...

: Now it is possible that 4 is a 'sink' for mistypings, as you say, but I would guess that the main cause of this bias is the effect that I've described above.

: Peter, 5w4

I agree. If anything, society (at least American society) discourages people from wanting to be 4's. Capitalism tends to promote success and achievement and money and doing things right, etc. This would tend to favor 3, 8, 1, and maybe 5.

Perhaps in certain circles, being a 4 is considered more desirable, but I think they tend to be very small circles. As Peter said, this message board is not representative of the entire population.
