OK Derf...I'll have a shot...

: Do any of you....

: 1. Find gender stereotypes unbearable?
A) Absolutely

: 2. Create documentaries, character descriptions, and diplomatic speeches in your head?
A) All the time...seems like I constantly rehearse how things will go. It gives me the feeling of somehow being prepared for any eventuality. I also tend to replay how things in the past have gone too.

: 3. Have no set sleeping schedule?
A) This one hits home probably more than any other question, simply because I have, for many years now, been the butt of many a joke made by those who don't know me. Maybe because I'm a musician my hours are fairly 'skew - wiff' anyway - but I've always been a night owl...even when I was a child. Nowadays, I do all my work at night - whether it's performance or writing. In fact, I don't seem capable of writing when the sun shines (not that I see much more than the dawn at the end of a particularly long night!). I frequently visit this site at 3 or 4 in the morning when my other work is done. Even my friends have adjusted to my strange hours. It's nothing for me to get phone calls after midnight just to shoot the breeze. People know that I'm wide awake and not going to be distracted by other things at that hour. Needless to say, they don't call me until the crack of noon either, because they know they'll get no sense whatsoever from me any earlier than that. This has also caused some problems over the years, particularly with my early-rising husband (he's a 9). He's fine through the week...he goes off for an early morning walk, brings me breakfast in bed *grin*, then toddles off to work. It's the weekends that are the killer - you know, family outings and the like. I've learned to do the stay-awake-straight-through-until-the-next-night trick when I've had to. Funnily enough, it was never a problem when our kids were little. We devised a simple rule that worked well for us: if it was dark outside - I'd go to the baby; If it was light - he'd go.
The lifestyle I've chosen is a perfect example of how one can legitimately be exempt from the norm. (I think 9-5 would be the death of me!)

: 4. Worry about the way your voice sounds different on recording?
A) Never! Since I spend a good deal of my time in the recording studio, I'm not only quite used to the sound of my voice, but they pay me well to put it there!

: 5. Tune into what others are saying at a distance, or in other rooms, even if you're occupied?
A) Happens all the time.

: After the questions, they usually have the essay section.... (My apologies to those who just got finished with final exams... :)

: I'd like to clear up the issue about flashy attire, body piercings, exotic scented oils, and other bells and whistles that supposedly make the average Four a human peacock.

: Are they right? Are they wrong? I have a slight suspicion that observations about Fours, as such, have come mostly from other types.

A) Who can say what is right or wrong for an individual? Those who pass judgement on others, particularly in a derogatory fashion, are usually just trying to bolster their own low opinion of themselves - it says more about them than about you. As for my own manner of dress...it is an outward expression of who I am. I abhor bad taste in anything, but I keep my opinions to myself. Whilst I have my own unique style, I'm generally more interested in feeling comfortable with what I'm wearing - that it expresses who I am and what I'm feeling on that particular day. I think that people get a general impression of you by what you wear and I want people to get the right impression of me. I tend not to be 'flashy' so much as 'earthy' because it suits my personality. I also have a thing about smell - I think others pick up on that as well and it, too, says something about you. People often comment on how lovely I smell. It's a rare (of course!) oil that I use that is very subtle - I hate smells that knock you over in an elevator! My sister, whom I practically raised, often brings over new clothes she's bought for me to wear for a while so that she can get the right 'smell' to her things! I think that, for her, my smell may make her feel more secure. I wear an odd (as in opposite to even) number of earrings, but I'm not personally into any other kind of body-piercing. Doesn't bother me if someone else is, though.

: Also, I'd like to hear if anyone who is familiar with the Enneagram has found certain "givens" about this type to be either exaggerated or simply off-whack. (Thanks, Milly, for providing a perfect example in your post a few days ago.)
A) I could ditto that. I'm an extroverted 4 which seems to be ignored as a possibility in the egram literature I've come across. Not only that, but I'm an optimist to boot! Most people have pegged me for a 7 simply because I display these two traits - as if the 7 has the corner on extroverted optimism! Nonsense! It's like the age old argument that if your artistic, you must be a 4, or if you're into helping you must be a 2. Then they presume I'm a 4w3 as if that explains everything. Sorry to disappoint again - but, whilst the jury is still out on that one - I'm leaning more towards 4w5! Go figure...

Thanks for the questions Derf....it was fun :-)

Amanda
