Another poster here, I don't recall who off the top of my head, stated that 5w4's have trouble with self-motivation, that they are "painfully apathetic". I think that the most important underlying principle behind lack of focus and lack of motivation is a (usually subconscious) unwillingness to allow outside occurences to have any effect on them. It is neither an attention deficit nor an attention attention instability - the attention is strong, but on a single, internal topic. The 5w4 doesn't like to change the focus of his attention at all. It is like there is a big "Do Not Disturb" sign on the closed door of the 5w4's brain, and any attempt to disrupt the thoughtful peace is regarded with general irritation by the 5w4. The 5w4 does not have too LITTLE attention, or too inconsistent attention; just the opposite. The 5w4 has attention that, once it gets going, is like an 18-wheeler - very hard to change direction. I am fairly sure that I am a 5w4, and I almost always have something going on in the back of my mind that I don't want to pull attention away from, and therefore do not. I think the best way to put it is, a 5w4 places his thoughts on a much higher level of importance than the outside world.
