If one chooses to focus one's attention on ideas, thoughts, study, general abstraction or hobbies instead of people why does that mean there's an attention defecit? To pay attention to the former, virtually to the exclusion of the latter (or vice versa), seems to denote a hyperfocus. I think those people who divide their attention equally between the two aspects are potentially more "balanced" or "stable" by social/cultural standards, but they posess no intensive focus in either direction, hence they seem to be the ones with an attention defecit.

By the way, I'm a 5w4 and I saw shrinks and their cohorts for over 10 years. I've had many different diagnoses, but ADD or ADHD was never on the list.

: i've noticed that just about every 54 i know has been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, of the non-hyperactive type. you think maybe this "disorder" is just being a distracted 5? things that i've read on the topic, and my shrink, have led me to beleive that it's more of an attention instability than a deficit. add people typically hyperfocus on stuff for hours and hours. and 5s almost always seem to "zone out" while someone is talking to them, but nevertheless listen intently while figuring out some other thing unrelated.

: thoughts?
