Actually, there appears to be three "retire early" personality types. (For those familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) the three most common types among Retire Early board participants were ISTJ, INTJ, and INTP.

I (also an INTP) feel an urge to become an archaeologist. I haven't looked into this hypothesis, but I think that many of them tend to retire early because field work can become too onerous at a certain age. Maybe I'll retire from archaeology early and commence to teach it in my later years.
I'm not sure about retirement per se, but I think that perhaps INTJs and INTPs are prone to career changes. Retirement and ISTJs...they probably retire early because for the most part, they're hard working (this is especially so for the US and other countries that value hard work) and financially responsible.
