really convince me that life is all relative.
They help me put things in perspective.
It seems that the same themes recur between all ideas and objects...it restores my faith in what I perceive as a superior power.

: ...are probably the best way to explain complex ideas. Wouldn't you agree?

: Examples from a book I've read:

: -Life is a bagel. It's delicious when it is fresh and warm, but often it's just hard. The hole in the middle is a great mystery, and yet it wouldn't be a bagel without it.

: -Life is a maze in which you try to avoid the exit.

: -Life is like a poker game. You deal or are dealt to. It includes skill and luck. You bet, check, bluff, and raise. You learn from those you play with. Sometimes you win with a pair or lose with a full house. But whatever happens, it's best to keep on shuffling.

:
: I have never been good at playing poker, but I keep on shuffling.

: : : Exactly, Becky!

: : : And it's also a matter of economy. I frequently use metaphors because certain words will speak volumes (with the added bonus of driving the point home with a lucid illustration).

: : I'm a poet. One thing I have observed about my poetry is that it is fraught with double meanings. I'll never grow tired of it.
: : Also, metaphors, symbols and idioms are very appealing to me as well. They imply that there is more than meets the eye--the relativity of objects to ideas or vice-versa; or objects to objects + ideas to ideas. (*rambling...*)
