Heres what I think about wings. I dont think we have a "wing." I think that we are merely influence more by one of our adjacent types than the other. Im a 5w6, but I could sometimes say the opposite. I feel like 6 is a bigger influenec on my personality but I deifnitely pick up traits and behaviors from 4 as well. I think its a big mistake of many enneagream authors to make the wing wound like a solid polarized type that adds to your main one all by itself. Id liken it more to you simply having a split between the two adjacent sides, where one must always be in the majority. Id say my adjacent numbers influence me like 70% 6 and 30% 4. And then out of my *whole* personality, that total influence from adjacent numbers can also vary... anyone else have input on this?

Also mentioned a few times below, Im not a real fan of the concept of integration and disintegration. In some ways I do like the concept of stress and sercurity points, where feeling secure can make me act/feel like an 8, sometimes in a healhty and sometimes in an unhealthy way, and same goes for 7 and feeling stressed. Ive also heard alternative theories of disintegraion and integration having to do with whatever level on the continuum of traits you like.. for example, if Im at level 3, then when I "disintegrat" (which is no longer an appropraite term because its not a move into unhealth) that I will move to the level 3 of the 7, and etc. What influences such movments, however, Ive never been able to glean from most things I read, it doesnt seem all that clear. Perhaps its an elaboration of the stress/security point thing, etc.

Id really like to hear other peoples opinions on this.

Jen
