Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive Amen Liz..you got it.Posted by ? on December 10, 2000 at 00:46:36: In Reply to: Style vs. Disorder posted by Elizabeth on December 08, 2000 at 21:27:53: : I've read this article before and it is hardly scientific being that it is written by his fiance who has a personal objective in mind. Beyond that she is talking about the extreme end of Schizoid Personality Style (Type 5) which the DSM IV refers to as a Personality Disorder since it becomes a pattern over a lifestyle that severely interferes with daily life functioning. : Ofcourse the nature/nurture debate is an interesting one. If SPD is genetic, then it really shouldn't be seen as the unhealthy end of the personality style... merely the extreme form of that style. The thing that complicates this debate is that, if it is genetic, parents will likely possess the qualities of detachment and isolation to produce the environment thought to create SPD--> a mess that cannot be sorted easily. There is also a strong possibility of a connection to Asperger's Syndrome and autism. : You won't find much of value on this subject on the internet. I know because I've researched it. People with Schizoid Personality Style (Type 5), like those who post on this message board, are generally NORMAL introverts and not socially inept or disordered. : I am a loner and extreme introvert myself. If you are interested, I've been researching this subject for the last four months and would be happy to share my conclusions with you.
