: In high school I formulated this philosophy, art explores the world inside yourself and expresses it outward, while science explores the world outside and expresses it inward.
If this is true, then art, once externalized, would be internalized through scientific understanding. And science, once internalized, would be expressed artistically. No, your concept is faulty. This is just one way it can happen. An artistic sensibility can be used to explore the outside world and bring it inward. The inner being can express it's nature with scientific reasoning.
Art/Philosophy really just means approaching something, external or internal, by experiencing the big picture first. Science approaches something, external or internal, by experiencing the details first.
