: : : What defines "healthy" or "unhealthy"? Is there some unifying principle throughout the types that determines whether a person is healthy or unhealthy, or is it arbitrary for each type?
: : *** All depends what criteria are applied and in which context for which end...In the absolute, that may very much sound like applying a set of spiritually oriented criteria and values. On that ground, there is plenty of litterature, let's site Naranjo, Don Riso, J.Wagner among a few...
: : The definition of health in the mouth of the street man or in the mouth of a psychiatrist may sound very different...
: So there is no generally accepted system of health in the Enneagram?
The co-authors Riso & Hudson have written a couple of books, one of which gets into detail about the 9 levels that range from unhealthy and healthy for each enneagram type. Each individual strives for health by working through these levels more or less level by level. The idea is to achieved a working state in which one no longer identifies with the ego and has worked through his or her basic fear and has expanded his or her awarement to act rightly on the basic desire. There is a lot said on this process in both of their books.
