: : Not everyone subscribes to the 261-459-783 groupings. Tom Chou and Tad Dunne both make arguements for a theory that regroups the nine types into 267-459-138 triads.
: it's not a matter of subscribing to one particular way of explaining all that there is to the enneagram, as far as i see it. it's hard to deny that there is a unifying element to the personalities that lie in the 612,378,945 triads. personally, i think the 267-459-138 groupings are a stretch. not that there aren't similarities between those types. however, to say that those a three groups is to say that it's the *same element* in each group that unites them. that is, there is some factor of personality, and that factor is the same for 267,459,and 138. i don't see the connection there, really.
thank you.someones eyes had to see.your either smarter or more well versed than the others who replied.they didn't seem to find any signifigants at all or treated like it were so self evident i was the laughably last idiot to notice.-one of the things that emediatly impressed me with the enneagram is its' mathimaticaly symmetrical beauty.this matrix is another manifestation of that.each row represents a fundimental "function"and each type is characterized by its singular overlapping combination of these "functions" like colours or chords.
: however, 126 are all focused on society. 459 are focused on their internal reflections. 378 are focused on the power that they currently posess. i've seen this described as fixation, but as far as i can tell, that's just another way to say focus.
: there's lots of other groupings. the focus triads are pretty weak, as far as how significant a similarity they point out. it's certainly unfair to say that 459 are all withdrawn. i've seen a 4 strip naked and climb up a telephone pole. that's not withdrawn. (well, in a certain very literal sense, it was... um.. anyway....) but they are very focused on their internal thoughts about the world, which is somewhat close to being withdrawn. that 4 i mentioned was being very un-withdrawn because of the effect it had on his internal world, and in order to bolster his own image of himself as a person who is true to his nature, yadda yadda yadda.
: also, look at the 135-468-792 triads. this is the obsession groups. 135 obsessed with performance, you say competency, same idea. 792 obsessed with projected image, how they are percieved by others. 468 are obsessed with honesty in some form or another. look at how 8s take to snakes in the grass, 6es to false authorities/hypocrites, and 4s to being true to themselves.
: and of course, motivation triads...
: 234 self-image/concern with the self
: 567 fear/concern with the world
: 891 anger/concern with action
: the motivation triads are your base motivation for doing what you do. it's the fire that fuels your engine.
: a ways down on the board, it might be gone by now, i wrote a short course on the enneagram. you might find a better treatment of these ideas there if it's still there.
