Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive My S-sidePosted by RoTtEn ApPlE on January 16, 2001 at 17:57:24: In Reply to: Re: N perspective of S perspective posted by janis on January 16, 2001 at 14:30:33: : i noticed your enjoyment of the "S-side". have you always had this to the same degree, or did you develop it over time? the reason i ask is that i am currently developing my "N-side" more. i find that it opens up new dimensions that i hadn't had before. it fills out my worldview a bit more, expands me, i guess. i do find it takes more energy and effort to concentrate on the N viewpoint. it teases my brain to think like an N. (at least, it teases my brain to TRY to think like an N. who knows how successful i am :)) all good... Here's what I'm thinking. In the beginning we are all S types. How do little kids learn? By sticking things in their mouth, up their nose... if I pull the cat's tail it'll scratch me etc. There simply is NO abstract. As a result, though they may be out of touch with their S-side, all Ns have been Ss. So it's a matter of REDISCOVERING and DEVELOPING a process we abandoned at some point. ART!!!! Creating a bronze sculpture... an S task or an N task???? Ha! If it's more than mere form... gotta be skilled both ways to make something great. N part to conceptualize meaning of the thing, S part to work the craft of making the thing. I think art kept me from losing my S while developing my N. I also just have a lot of interest in building physical things... but I start with the concept first before I work out the details of how it can be technically executed. (And sometimes I find my ideas CANNOT be technically executed. haha) So, whattaya do to develop your N? I think you've already got a good piece of an N so it won't be much work.
