my view is that art is exploration of the intangible things that can't be dissected and explained easily. the concepts of beauty, ugliness, pain, serenity, complexity, emotions, awe, peace, death, chaos, mystery, perfection, stillness, movement, innocence... in one sense it is the exploration of the mysteries within yourself. people respond to art because something in the art resonates with something within them, something within the world that they "know" but find hard to express. sometimes it tickles the mind, since you can be drawn to it, but not know why.

science is exploring the mysteries of how things work-- taking them apart peice by peice, and exploring how they fit together.
