Fives are typically the most introverted. I would guess though that a 5w6 Social subtype could be an ENTP. For ENTPs though, the most common types are Three, Six, and especially Seven.

"I'm not afraid of people, I'm aggressive, and I can be extremely arrogant and cynical. I wonder if this contradicts me being a five."

This doesn't sound like a Three - if you show this behavior. This sounds like counterphobic Six, or possibly Seven.

"But I do exhibit many five qualities, and on the Enneagram tests I score a very high number as a five while many of the other numbers are negative."

Well, there's no real good enneagram test out there. Considering that most traits do overlap with each of the other types (e.g., Sevens and Nines both are optimistic and ignore their problems, Ones and Sixes are responsible and hardworking, etc.), you can get a Flavor of what you are, but it doesn't pinpoint exactly. Also, you may have a distorted self-image somewhat which affects your results.

"So many of these enneagram books describe fives are being incredibly introverted, and I only go through introverted periods."

Fives, and then Fours are Usually the most introverted. I once did a survey on introversion/extraversion and found some Fives having 30% extraversion scores. Fours were between 15-25% typically. One question though: how strong is your Extraversion? You can be an ENTP with weak extraversion. If that's the case it's very possible you could be a Five. If your extraversion is off the charts though, you're possibly a Seven.
