: Off hand, Judith Searle comes to mind. The premise is that the top (8,9,1) of the Enneagon represents "light" of being and that the bottom (4,5) : represents the absence light (being.) The absence of light (being) leaves a void that is expressed as not quite 4, not quite 5, but somewhere : in between. In this line of reasoning, not "being" (fixated on head or heart) leaves individuals in a "darkness" of not "knowing" or not "feeling" : self. Simply put, confused. I am just the messenger. Don't blame me. ----------------------------- The bottom of the enneagram is a void, between points 4 & 5, which is opposite point 9 at the top. All types are derivatives of 9, the "falling asleep" of oneself to one's true nature. At the best we all achieve union that is the high point of 9. Union with our essence and connection to that which is greater than ourselves. The void is the point of absence of the awareness of our essence, and the loss of our true nature. In the enneagram of process we migrate from points 1 to 9. The void represents an internal shift from being swallowed by our emotions (at 4) to leaping the void and utilizing our mind and will to direct our lives (at 5). Many 4's & 5's confuse apathy with serenity, personal ego with ego detachment, loss of self with loss of ego, etc. They obtain a pseudo 9 union. Many 9's also confuse these also.
