Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive Re: How do you get a 5 to change?Posted by WingPrayer on July 28, 2000 at 10:18:06: In Reply to: How do you get a 5 to change? posted by Curious on July 27, 2000 at 19:00:00: If your interest is in trying to help them develop (as opposed to changing them to suit your preference) they try appealing to them by way of the way they like to operate. Consider giving them things to read. You may want to try getting them to take the MB and then follow it up quicky with Keirsey's section on their type in "Please Understand Me Two." Since Keirsey is himself an INTP, his style of writing will appeal to them and they will see "reasons" for trying to develop the other side. Consider trying to get them to read the autobiographies of Albert Swietzer, Gandhi, Augustine's Confessions - people who were very astute and rigorous thinkers but who also saw that there was more to life - people who largely gave intellectual defenses for the emotions and/or spiritual sides (and they do not believe in letting "the emotions run one's life" which will again appeal to the 5). If you are not a 5 you may not be able to communicate these things to them. When I am over on the main board here and I read people talking about people as "light" and such, I cannot follow - I want to have a reason to accept your position, or at least what sounds like the outgrowth of a deduction, not merely "some thought." Just make sure that as was mentioned in other posts, you are not tring to change them because of your own unwillingness to develop. Good luck in all!
