: The dissociative experience. I may have this too. I first got it when I was 9 years old riding a bike. Let me ask you: Can you force it at will? Just by thinking about makes me go into the state. Also, does it feel like youre in a dream? Like what you do doesnt matter? I feel very safe in this state. Im also very uninhibited. Im less emotional too. It seems I disconnect from consciousness slightly. Its also hard for me to concentrate on anything.

I don't think I could force it at will, or maybe I could, I don't know. It isn't a pleasant feeling, so it isn't one I encourage. Yes, it feels a bit like dreaming, except I have a dual awareness thing that I don't have in dreams. I do not feel safe in this state, mainly because I tend to feel like I'm losing my mind. When the two thought tracks diverge, I don't have control over either of them really, and it is disorienting and scary. I can't really concentrate on much either, although once I can, I tend to feel better. Putting together thought and action seems to work it out for me.
: Does this sound similar?

: : Your first question really intrigues me!! I've often had this dissociative experience, since very early childhood. I never really thought about it much except when it was happening, until I mentioned it to my therapist last year. I guess it's not a big deal, but it used to really freak me out. If I've been alone a long time, or reading a ton, or really hungry or tired, I'll start to dissociate from my own thoughts. Like my mind is running on two tracks, the "Me me" that is being observed by the "outside me". This used to happen a lot to me when I was little and watching the water run in the bathtub. It feels almost hallucinatory, I've had similar feelings on LSD before. Now I brush it off, usually redirecting my thoughts helps, calling someone, turning the tv on (I know, disgusting) will do the trick.

: : Does anyone else have this experience??
