: Regarding what you say about 7, I get how this can tie in with gluttony. But the way you describe it, it sounds as though 7s are all large people, whereas I've known 7s who are short and thin. Perhaps you're speaking of 7s in more of a metaphorical sense. Anyway, this is, for me, a new perspective on 7s, and I haven't yet fit it in with my experience of 7s. I'll name some well-known 7s, and maybe you could tell me how this description fits some of them. Robin Williams. Tom Paris from Star Trek: Voyager. Lucy from I Love Lucy. Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. i certainly meant big in the metaphoric sense. tho, i've found that a lot of 7s *are* rather large, this is probably just due to the fact that they tend to like eating and sitting :) 7s comand a presense. they are the loudest thing in the room. they want to prove all the time that they are the best at whatever is being discussed. (subtle difference between them and 3s, who want to discuss whatever they're best at.) tigger is known for this. "tiggers are best at xxxxxx!" he says, bouncing on his tail. it could be brain surgery or eating pig testicles or frying linoleum, if you mention it, he'll proclaim how good at it he is. robin williams is known for his extremely large stage act. he brought that presence to a bunch of his characters, most notably probably is mork. as metaphoric bigness goes, the guy's a giant. i'm not really that familiar with voyager or lucy. homer and bart simpson are another couple of people to check out. it seems that you've picked mostly 76s as your examples. keep in mind that the more dour, less bouncy 7s are also big in much the same way. plus, they exhibit more of the frustration element of 7s that 76s keep hidden. : : : OBJECT RELATIONS i like what you said about these. i'm gonna read it over again and maybe respond with more about this.
: The commonality I found among 1, 4, and 7 is ideals. 1s get angry because the world doesn't measure up their ideals. 4s feel envious because other people seem to measure up to their ideals better than they do, and they also feel frustrated with people when they see them up close and realize that they don't measure up to their ideals. 7s seek to bring their ideals to life in the world through utopian planning, and they also tend to imagine that they live in their idealized world. The concept of ideals ties in with frustration, though it may work better for 7s than frustration does. Frustrated ideals are clearly a part of 1 and 4 psychology. I'm not sure what role frustration plays in 7 psychology. Do you have any thoughts on this?
see above. meet and identify a few 78s, and watch them in action. then, try to see that same frustration welling under the surface of 76s. in 78s, the frustration is hard to miss, but 76s keep it hidden behind their big exterior. they are frustrated that they don't already have everything, cant' already be everywhere, and do everything. they're frustrated like a wet cat if they're outdone in almost *any* arena. : In most Enneagram diagrams that I've seen, 578 are on the left, and 124 are on the right. I have seen it reversed only occasionally. I think I tend to be friends with 7s more than with 8s. yeah, that's what i mean, sorry. 578 are only right in the sense that the other types are wrong :) 5s and 7s are always found together. my best friend since kindergarten is a 76. i've found that if i see a 7 from across a room, i can tell that they're a 7 cause i feel like talking to them. i've got some theories on why this relationship is so common, but it's really just common sense. they have exactly what the other type wants, without asking them to do anything they're not comfortable with. neither type wants any emotional baggage (or not much, anyway), they like to bust balls, and it's the perpetual entertainer and the perpetual observer. the watcher and the watched. plus, they get to use eachother's complimentary skills. ie, the 5 gets to broadcast his ideas to the room, and the 7 has a steady source of confidently acquired facts. and, as with any common relationship, it can go codependent quite easily, tho not so badly as the 27 relationship.
