I seek out one-on-one conversations (but normally with people I feel comfortable around--this comfort can take a few years to a few days to be established). Group discussions, however, do leave me feeling exposed. I feel that in a group, many people, feeling intimidated by numbers, might not contribute to the full extent of what they want to say, and I can never do that. It's all or nothing; when you can get me started, I'll talk about a topic forever. That is why I dislike group discussion: I don't like "setting the tone" but sometimes I end up doing so nevertheless; I feel as if I could get more out of the experience if more people were more communicative so that I could sit back and listen, giving my contributions but not directing the conversation.
In a one-on-one setting both parties usually contribute equally. Then I do not feel as if I have been "pushing" or, conversely, "withdrawing."

I used to not be this way (interested in conversation). I used to try to think everything through in solitude until I learned how much can be learned from other people.
