Don't think you are a 9. I think that your 5 has evolved. A classic 9 is not interested in the questions you are. A 5 is.

: Im a 5... Ive always tested as a 5, with a 6 wing, and there was most definitely a time in my life when reading the description of a 5w6 was dead on target and sent shivers up my spine.. however, over the years, (Ive been interested in the enneagram for maybe 6 years now) Ive noticed that Ive slowly seemed to have moved away from the 5 description...
: I was never too uncomfortable in social situations, and I was never too neurotic about being around people and feeling overwhelmed.. these were subcontious things I thought were in me deep down, but generally, Ive always been able to interact socially as needed.. over time however, Ive not only lost of lot of the neurotic 5 attributes, but I seemed to have turned into the prototypical 9... not in the sense that I always have to go with the flow and avoid conflict (hardly!) but in the sense that I feel very very at peace, I hold my own convictions but also can often see the merits in all sides of a question and am not too interested in asserting that one if necessarily and always better than another, and Im very very mellow and laid back...
: Ive had friends suggest that Ive merely become healthier and healthier over the years, but I wouldnt say that Ive been taking on the traits of the 8 any more than I also pick up healthy traits of the 7.. I tend to believe more in the concept of "stress" and "security" points, which I see in myself, (acting like an 8 when I feel secure in my knowledge and my self, being the leader because I know I can and want to, and sometimes being the 7 and being able to enjoy spontenairty, gathering all kinds of experience..) but I have no idea whether that connects strongly to moving up the levels on the continuum...
: Ive also had one friend suggst that perhaps I never was a 5 but have always been a 9 who mistyped herself from the beginning.. and to be honest there was a time or two in the beginning years when I had some real thought over whether I was in fact a 9.. but when I really think about it, reading about the 5 is like looking at an old photopgraph of myself.. it is *definitely* what I was, although it doesnt necessarily seem to describe me as much any more... but the whole worldview of the 5, wanting to learn and understand, is defintely me, and my main motivation.. although the concept of finding a perfect union with someone appeals very strongly to me.. but its not the main focus in my life..
: Any input on this?

: Also, Ive had some conversation with friends about the way we percieve our parents.. the 5 is supposed to view both his parents with ambivalence, and the 9 with positive feelings.. and strangely Ive noticed that my tending much more toward 9 charactersitics has happened especially markedly over the past 2 years since Ive been out of the house and living at school.. and while I can say I always did sort of have middle reaction to the way my parents interacted with me in my childhood-I both love them dearly and hate them at the same time- Ive noticed that in thinking about my parents, and relooking at my childhood, Ive sort of come to realise that I did have a good childhood.. I somewhat realised that a lot of the things I resented them for werent actual faults, but things I merely perceievd (although isnt it all just a matter of perception? dont get me started).. but in doing so, Ive sort of taken up a little more positive view of my parents..
: So do you think it would be possible that this slow change in mentality, (not just about my parents, but most likely what it marks... mentality in general...) could in fact move me toward 9? I am almost sure Im a 5, and thus will always be a 5, but is it possible for me to pick up huge 9 aspects? When I test now, I get the highest score in 5, then second highest in 9 (two less points) then 6 (one less than 9) and so on.
: Another thing I was thinking about was that idea that Ive been told over time, as we mature and become healthier, our wing grows... Ive definitely noticed the 6 becoming a larger influence on my personlity, or maybe just more noticed.. is it possible that the 6 is picking up 9ish traits and thats what it might be?

: I find this all fascinating..any and all input is welcome!!
