?NT? 5s and the inferior functions

Greetings again:

I do not know the statistics on it but I think it is probably true that most 5s are certainly iNtuitives and for the most part Thinking types in the Myers-Briggs scheme. We all know, and countless posts attest to, the huge sucess of ?NT? 5s in the conceptual field and I am hale and hearty to raise mine as the 99th or 100th voice on that score. Certainly the 5 kicks the boot of all other types in this field, or at least has the potential to do so. Never mind that the others couldn't care less. 5s generally sing thier song, if not into thier own, then at least into another 5s ear. Miracle that the 5s conceptual prowess is, as a psychological phenomenon, it is a tired old grove for discussion. A more profitable direction to take in furthering the model offered by the enneagram is to consider the role of the inferior functions as they relate to iNtuition and Thinking. On this score a curious phenomenon have caught my attention and am wondering if other enneophiles have made similar notes.

Experience of Music
There is a great deal of music (mostly classical) that is impressive from a purely Thinking standpoint. Much of Mozart and Schubert is quite architectural and there are some, like Bartok, whose experience is very much like the mindset taken on while working math. But the thinking element, when present at all, generally supports an expression of feeling or senation. The 5s I know have a stronger than average interest in good music. This observation was given a second by my enneagram panel facilitator. Well, the first question is whether or not this phenom, that 5s like better music, really holds. The second question is not a question but a comment on the word good. I have used the word good and it always raises the hackles of any 5 worth his/her salt. Get over it: there is no absolute rule but good music deals, in an ingenuous way, with themes central to human evolution or condition. (Got an A in sociology!) Anyone who does not think that the concept of human evolution is viable is a nincompoop and listens to REO Speedwagon. But Mozart makes you smarter. So there is hope. Assuming you are on board with the first observation the second question is why are 5s so hot musically (as observers, of coarse, not composers) ?NT? have a quite undeveloped feeling function. It would seem, on the surface, that the feelings rendered by better music would require a more developed feeling function to enable participation. Not so. So why? Consider too that the whatever function enables a strong musical understanding is suppressed in normal encounters where you see 5s generally prefering truth to kindness in the interactions with others. Think of Hannibal Lecter (in the Silence of the Lambs, not that dreadful Hannibal film) cannibalizing the poor searent to the strains of the Golberg Variations. Now consider what music strong Feeling types often like: often overwrought smaltzy stuff like Celine Dion, Mariah Carie, Soap operas, etc. What is it about the 5 psychology that participates in a more refined feeling sense through music but not elsewhere?
