...I've read a great deal about personality disorders... I've a good understanding of the enneagram... I've drawn my own conclusions about correlations and, from a theoretical perspective, am satisfied with this rough structure.
Type 1: Obsessive-Compulsive
Type 2: Histrionic
Type 3: Narcissitic
Type 4: Oral (Depressive/Borderline)
Type 5: Schizoid (and Schizotypical)
Type 6: Self-Defeating
Type 7: Anti-social
Type 8: Sadistic
Type 9: Symbiotic (Dependent)
: : 5s are no more fear motivated than any other type. Triads and their terms are often misleading.
: Eschew the triads if you wish. For the purpose of this discussion, the concept of basic fears for every type exists prior to triadizing. It is more important to understand what *kind* of fear drives each type than it is to speculate about which types are most or least motivated by fear.
: I smell fear in every Five I meet. I'm sure they would deny it and say they're just being sensible. (Some Sixes do exactly this, too.) I might reply, what's so insensible about fear? It's part of the survival instinct. And as for instincts, my friend Rotten Apple always said, "Don't deny the beast!" Upon considering that, would they accept the fact that they're motivated by fear?
Well, obviously you have never met me. :) There are extraverts who 'interpret' every introvert as being fearful... I think they often miss what it is to be introverted, yes?
