They seem to instantly know what is "right." : tey scramble doing with emot. while they ARE concerned with right and wrong, an emotional center concern, they are typified by morally sound ACTION. I don't think doing is the essence of this triad at all. I'm surprised I didn't identify this before. You make a big mistake when you say call 891 the "doing" center. I'm not sure if you get this from Gurdjeff or not, but I can see why authors like Riso changed it to the instinct or "gut." An 8 or a 1 does not necessarily have to DO anything, yet can still be an 8 or a 1. The healthier the 8 or 1 is, the more likely he or she is to act, but unhealthy 8s or 1s are known for their inability to actually act. An unhealthy 8 will order people around and try to control their environment, but will not actually do anything to achieve any kind of true leadership. They are pathetic. The same for unhealthy 1, who knows what is right in his head and lectures people unproductively or fumes quietly, but doesn't really do anything at all. Both types instinctively try to control the outside environment and the inside environment respectively, but neither of them has to necessarily "do" anything to still be considered an 8 or a 1. Doing is merely a sign of healthiness for instinct types, just like the ability to use logic to survive or even prosper in the world and not to think the world is frightening is a sign of healthiness in 5s. The triad is about using one's gut to instinctively KNOW, to know how to best control the outside (8) or the inside (1), without having to use the thought process that you and I both use. 8s and 1s always have the gut instinct at every level of healthiness. : well, you used the ae word, so yo'ure certainly a 54 :) Hmmm... I suppose I do. It doesn't depress me when others don't value my competence as I try to get by without others most of the time but I guess it would be nice if everyone saw each other's gifts and appreciated each other more because of it. : by knowing that the actions they take are morally perfect, and that they are doing everything they can to make sure that their world is made more perfect. scramble doing and emot, relate with doing. I'm still not sure every 1 actually "does" very much... : hahahaha.. *sigh* I guess that's the curse of the 5. Niches are comfortable but trapping in a way, and any true 5 wants to explore with their mind as much as possible. Getting stuck in the same old lifestyle kind of negates this. I see the same thing now happening in my marriage. I loved my ex-wife but married life was pretty confining and I kind of tried to seek my independence away from her and in my own mind more and more, which of course she didn't appreciate very much. It would have been even worse if she were a 9. :) : in my lil egram circle, we refer to that as leaning on your wing, or flapping your wing. usually, people are really annoying when they do this. i have more respect, in a certain way, for a 54 who's an alcoholic than for a 54 who's lost his intellect in foolish froofiness. Well, I wouldn't say I've gone that far. Just far enough to annoy you two every once in a while. :) But seriously, I enjoy doing it because it allows me to pick up some of the strengths of point 4, even if I pick up some of the weaknesses. And the more you do it the better you get at keeping the strengths and losing the weaknesses as long as you always look at yourself rationally. It's always seemed more natural to explore my wing then to explore debauchery. I've never seen the value in the latter. : actually, ryan, i gotta say that, since the male rotten apples showed up on the scene, liz has pretty consistently said exactly what i think in half the words, and this is no exception. we seem to be uncannily similar. it's kinda disconcertingly neat sometimes. Hire her for your editor then... Ryan
