: "but "needy people" are one of my biggest pet-pieves!"

mine, too.
and that group includes, indeed, is predominantly composed of, those who have a need to be validated by helping others.
i can't stand the martyr mentality.

"oh, but look at what i've done for you??(with crying eyes)"
you've done it for you, to feel good about yourself.
i'm the only person who does things for me. other people who do things for me do it for their own best interest.

this is clearly seen as a part of the 5 mentality, i feel. it's most effecient to let others take care of themselves, and takes less away from my self-reliance. i think it's also interesting that 5s tend to get along great with 7s (it seems every five i meet comes equiped with one) but tend to be wholly unimpressed by 2s

: but it is a personality thing, no? Some personalities are more likely to be "needy" or to express unhealthy moments/times as such. Society sends somewhat mixed messages - we do not value the "needy" yet we do value the caretaker (or at least segments of society do - church, social org., etc.).

the helper is often the needy one.
society values teh caretaker unconditionally becasue society is stupid.
society doesn't value the empoweror nearly as much.
