I had a big issue then about predictability linked to the possibility of controling through knowledge, ie, if science was exact, then, someone who'd know more than I could take over inside of my own brain and I'd wouldn't exist anymore as an independant being. I had just read A.Huxley's Brave new world and another book on genetical issues. It seemed so clear to me in that context that if science could some day predict with enough accuracy such things as people's behavior or thought, what was at stakes was huge. Back at the time, scientists were a lot more optimistic and arrogant than now and we didn't know much then about cognitive processes. Thus I can understand how important it might feel to challenge a totalitarian view of knowledge... Listen, I think science is fine. But, it's a belief, and not necessarily true, just like religion or common sense. And about mind control - I don't believe in free will. I think all people have no choice but to choose what they want most to choose. So, why should I be motivated in defense of free will?
