: 2w1 and 5w4... I can't imagine a bigger mess... a couple who will never understand one another well enough to satisify the 5... and will likely never bond in a way to satisfy the 2. The more unhealthy the behavior of each type gets... the worse things look as they deepen the emptiness between them. I think opposites are rarely complements.

: Actually, I had an excellent friendship with a VERY HEALTHY 2w1. She was the most loving, giving person in the world... and a lot of fun when her one wing wasn't making her too correcting and rigid (that was rare).

: On the other hand, my mother is a VERY UNHEALTHY 2w1 and she is an emotional VACUUM... the reason I have absolutely no empathy for anyone.

I kno wwhat you mean . Im married to a 2w1 ESFJ and love her very much. But you couldnt imagine 2 people who are more opposite. She is like a dr. jekyl and Mrs hyde. When her 2 part comes out you couldnt imagine a more giving loving woman. It is her basic type. But her one wing is strong. For those who put any reliance on tests she came our 26 out of 32 on the Rheti (it was a fight to get her to take the test) and 22 out of 32 on point one. I dont see much statistical difference between a score of 26 and 22. When her one wing comes out she is rigid and cold, the exact opposite of what she is like when she is at two. Funny maybe its my own lack of Enneagram knowledge but I at first typed her as a 9w8. Is it my ignorance or is there any similarity between a 2w1 and a 9w8? Obviously being a 2 she has a strong connection to 8 but how did i think she was a nine? To be honest with you one of the reasons I married her was because i thought she was a nine. The 4 part of me which sometimes literally screams has a strong need to "belong " and be secure and what better woman to satisfy this need than a nine who merges with you. Once I have that feeling o fbelonging I have little need for constant contact as my mind is my own best friend and love to spend hours alone at night reading and learning. I wish there were a blood test to determine true enneagram type instead of all this guessing so you could know exactly what you are getting into. Hey given some time maybe Ill develop it. Sorry for any mispellings. All my letters are rubbed out and Im no typist. I guess I need a new keyboard
